Martin Petzhold was stationed on the USS Parche from 1983-1987 during the Cold War. It was a “Special Operations” Sub stationed at Mare Island Naval Shipyard during his tour. Operations are kept secret due to Security. The only port he got to see was a one day dock at Pearl Harbor to get parts needed for an underway repair.
