I have never felt the need to explain my personal connection to the NHVSF other than being its founder. I’m often asked if I’m a veteran, and I reply no. I’m sometimes accused of pretending to be a veteran by founding this charity, which I (and others) find preposterous.
Today I have added my father’s brother, my uncle, Hugh Barry Spillane to the “In Memoriam” page. My Uncle served in Vietnam, and lived with us for a time as I was growing up. My freshman year of college he passed away by his own hand after battling frequent episodes of PTSD. God rest his soul.
